Rather, it means we may need to do a little more work than we’d originally anticipated. It likely means that achieving our goals will take a little longer than we’d planned. Or maybe we have to change our goals so they’re more realistic.
About Blue Collar Writer
If you have a dream of writing, then there’s something you need to write. Don’t let your dream die a lingering death.
Sure, we all want to be the next John Grisham… Stephen King… Danielle Steele… Jan Karon… Sue Grafton… Janette Oke… (insert name of writer you want to be like here) . But the reality is that there is no line-up of agents or editors waiting with bated breath to grab the napkin with our scribbles from lunch and sign us up on the spot. And there will be no auction for our first manuscript, and no guest appearance on Oprah… So, does that mean we ought to give up?
I don’t think so.
I’ve been involved with writing in some form or another since my first letter to the editor was published when I was 12 years old. Since then, I’ve had a wide variety of things published, including 10 books, one play, numerous columns, and a variety of other things. I’ve also done some editing, including a quarterly magazine and a book, Hot Apple Cider, which will be out in May. And I teach workshops on writing. I’ve had four different book publishers, including myself. You can see my books, etc. on my website. Or read my blog about life here.
I created Blue Collar Writer as a place where I can share some of the things I’ve learned about writing and some of my opinions on the publishing industry.
